It is always a special moment when local schools give students and teachers the chance to interact with veterans. I was pleased to join Wyoming Area School District for a luncheon honoring those who serve in our armed forces. Northwest Area School District also held a special assembly recognizing the brave men and women who have selflessly dedicated their time to preserving our beloved American freedoms. These events are important. Just as veterans are special in our eyes, young people are special in their eyes because they represent the future they helped to ensure. When they see them using their freedom in productive ways, when they see them participating in community and civic life, it reaffirms that what they did mattered. #veteransday #veterans #serviceandsacrifice

@vrcnepa recently celebrated 50 years of working to meet the special needs of crime victims and addressing issues of violence on an individual and community level. Janet MacKay was presented with the Lifetime Advocate Award. Following 33 years of dedicated service, she still works part time for the organization. Among her numerous accomplishments, she was the driving force behind the formation of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Task Force Against Human Trafficking. Through her many initiatives to benefit the community and by her personal example, Janet clearly reflects the true spirit and mission of VRC.

In response to calls for greater convenience, PA residents can now purchase canned cocktails at restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and supermarkets. Under the new law, sellers must obtain a state permit and follow limits on alcohol volume and quantities.
