@vrcnepa recently celebrated 50 years of working to meet the special needs of crime victims and addressing issues of violence on an individual and community level. Janet MacKay was presented with the Lifetime Advocate Award. Following 33 years of dedicated service, she still works part time for the organization. Among her numerous accomplishments, she was the driving force behind the formation of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Task Force Against Human Trafficking. Through her many initiatives to benefit the community and by her personal example, Janet clearly reflects the true spirit and mission of VRC.
I was delighted to join @repfritz in welcoming a special group of active and engaged citizens from Susquehanna County who dedicate their time and talent to helping elect qualified candidates for public office. Today they had the opportunity to get an up-close look at state government and check out how their involvement is shaping the direction of our Commonwealth.
Good luck to all of the youth pheasant hunters today! I was thrilled to get a behind-the-scenes view and learn more about how the PA Game Commission raises and releases birds to allow our young hunters an opportunity to experience the sport.

In response to calls for greater convenience, PA residents can now purchase canned cocktails at restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and supermarkets. Under the new law, sellers must obtain a state permit and follow limits on alcohol volume and quantities.

It was an honor to join my friend Senator John Yudichak as he was sworn in as @luzernecommunitycollege president. He is the right person, at the right time – to increase enrollment, expand partnerships, and provide added value for students and the community at large.
@alpinewurst has been providing outstanding German-American cuisine for 45 years. Instead of using artificial preservatives and shelf life extenders, their award-winning products are high pressure processed, killing the growth of any pathogens or bacteria. Last year, they expanded their facility to include onsite HPP equipment, allowing them to offer tolling processing services to other small and midsized food companies. We recently toured their operations and learned more about how they partner with students from the Wayne Highlands School District’s Agriculture Program and Honesdale FFA, inspiring the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.
It is ten years since a heinous assassination took the life of @pastatepolice Cpl. Bryon Dickson II and severely wounded fellow trooper Alex Douglass. We honor their service and pray for the continuing recovery of their families and friends. Out of such tragedies it is incumbent on us to learn lessons and implement remedies: how to better protect all of those who wear the uniform in the cause of community safety; how important it is for us to give constant support to those in these dangerous jobs; how to better detect and prevent instances of deadly unprovoked violence. Each year, there is a special ceremony to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty. Every day, we should be grateful to the individuals with the character and the courage to put their lives on the line for us. We should do what we can to respect their calling and their sense of duty. Bless the police, firefighters, emergency responders, and others who see to our safety and quality of life.
Even after 23 years, the sorrow and pain over the losses America experienced due to the deadly terrorist attacks of 9-11 bring intense emotion to the forefront. Our moments of reflection today matter a great deal to the families and friends of the thousands who died that day and in the times that followed. We promised the victims that we would never forget their sacrifice. We promised we would never forget the courage of passengers aboard Flight 93 who took action so that more Americans would not perish. We promised to never forget how emergency responders put themselves in deadly peril in devoted efforts to save the lives of others. We committed to pursuing terrorists to the end of the earth. The monuments at the World Trade Center site, Shanksville, and the Pentagon forever enshrine the costs that come with preserving freedom and democracy. It is well that we remember and learn from that awful day. Each year, as part of our national observance, we should seek to summon the sense of common purpose that so resolutely compelled rescue and recovery efforts in the days, weeks, and months following. #neverforget

The high temperatures didn’t prevent many from turning out for ‘Claverack Day’ as the @wyomingctyfair opened its gates last week. In addition to rides, food, exhibits, and daily grounds shows, Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative held its 87th annual meeting, welcoming 1,348 members through their tent. Congratulations to all on another successful year!

Children enjoyed games, prizes, and family-fun as the community gathered to help local officials celebrate the rededication of Pringle Borough’s Park, following significant upgrades to the existing facility. New features include modern playground equipment, reliable fencing, and a camera monitoring system to protect visitors and property. The improvements were made possible through a grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development.
